Formatting by Page Range
19th century ledgers will often have an index at the beginning requiring a different number of columns and/or labels than the bulk of the volume
As an example this store ledger:
Pages 4 - 17 require 3 columns (last name, first name, page reference)
Pages 18 - 146 require 6 columns (debt date, dept descript., dept amt, credit date, credit descript. credit amt) plus a header (account name).
[note: I just noticed that something is messed up with the actual pagination of this specific work in CONTENTdm - there is a disconnect between page titles and the navigation button, but it's a good example so we can just go with it for now! 🙂]
