It looks like the issue is in [make_optimized_select_view](https://github.com/voxel51/fiftyone/blob/2892daf5435b53faac5b93bcdeaaa6a3c8394d29/fiftyone/core/view.py#L1487). It changes the base dataset to be the patches temp dataset. Looks like the bug was also in `v0.16.6`

Hi @pawani2v, your videos/image may have too much metadata for importation. Importing tasks in smaller batches may solver your issue

I'd be in favor of officially dropping 3.7 with this change. Still need to fix documentation builds, so leaving it as a draft for now. > @benjaminpkane appreciate the constant...

Hi @sergiev. Can you share any browser errors for the blank images? Or a dataset that reproduces the issue? The sample could be malformed. Regarding `SelectGroupSlices` should probably be avoided...

HI @constiDisch. Samples are in-memory until they are added to a dataset. A dataset is always backed by MongoDB. So with respect dataset or view operations, MongoDB is required
