Student: Estranged/MOD B FT only

As a student I want to declare I am estranged/MOD B on my application.

Acceptance Criteria

• [ ] Modify the estranged question to a modified independant exception question the following content. Move from "Parent" tab.

• [ ] Base question content. If yes expand to exception question for modified independant (This content is replacing the current "Are you estranged from your parents" question)

Is it impossible for you to provide your parents' financial information and you need to request consideration for modified independant status due to exceptional circumstances? o Yes o No

• [ ] No continues on with no changes to the application

Which of the following best describes your situation? (If none of these apply you are not eligible for modified independant status)

o There is an irreconcilable rift between me and my parent(s), and I can provide satisfactory evidence of a severe and permanent breakdown in the relationship between you and your parent(s) that has existed for at least one year unless a sudden and serious situation has occurred. o You would normally be classified as a dependant student by StudentAid BC, but you are unable to contact or locate your parents, step-parent, sponsor, or legal guardian due to conflict or emergency (such as war, famine or natural disaster) in the country where they live. o None of the above.

• [ ] Options one and two should make the student independant and trigger an exception path called "modified independant" and expand the question again to include the relevant document uploader (two options below).

• [ ] Current exception path estranged from parents needs to be renamed to modified independant (this will capture both of the paths that they can select)

• [ ] Option 3 none of the above should behave like no does above it minus the collapse of the question (question for devs can it collapse the question and change above answer to no from yes or is that to much complexity?)

Document uploader

Currently a document uploader exists attached to the question I am estranged from both of my parents however we are changing the trigger behaviour to not occur until either option 1 or 2 of the second question is selected.

• A statement from you describing the family rift, how long the rift has existed and why it continues.
• A letter from a responsible third party testifying as to the truthfulness of your explanation and providing an independent assessment of the situation. The third party could be any of the following: counsellor, psychologist, religious advisor, doctor, teacher, and/or mature relative outside the immediate family or family friend. The status of the third party and their relationship to you must be identified in the letter.
• A letter from your parent(s)/step-parent/sponsor/legal guardian describing the family rift, how long the rift has existed and why it continues. If a parental letter cannot be obtained, a second letter from another professional third party must be submitted.

Need to confirm content for uploader for emergency/conflict. second option with Nat but ready to move forward just with minor content tweak on that uploaders docs as they are not outlined in the appeal.
