This appears to have been addressed by this newer PR from December 2020: https://github.com/rails-api/active_model_serializers/pull/2399 A little disappointed #2171 was never merged, but glad it's fixed nonetheless.

I'm seeing it on http://www.cringely.com/2014/07/15/coming-microsoft-cultural-revolution/ as well. In this site it's grabbing the contents of a `script` tag with analytics tracking code.
