Issues with a custom tone, fix versicle tone, and addition of new tones

Open MRoth1910 opened this issue 1 year ago • 4 comments

  1. I can't seem to add a preparatory syllable in a custom tone. I see that ' is used for the accent, but this results in every previous syllable being italicized.
  2. Changing the clef after entering the neumes changes the letters, so they are now wrong.
  3. I would like to add the tone used for Compline of Holy Saturday, the day hours of Easter Sunday, and Compline of the octave, as well as ad libitum in PT. It is a variant of mode 8 essentially, with a mediant of one major accent and one preparatory syllable and a final of one major accent and two preparatory syllables. I'm not sure how to do contribute that however. The only tones left, for the preconciliar office, would be the tone in directum used for certain psalms (after the Litany of the Saints, the Rogation procession, ad lib in certain monasteries at Matins etc.) and the special tone for the office of Nov 2. (I don't see a reason to add the special form of the tonus peregrinus, which is so rarely used.
  4. Turning off preparatory syllables for the versicles would be nice. There's no need to have italics when only the final syllable changes.
  5. This may be too much work, but the festal versicle for the most important feasts would be handy. It is customary in some places (like at Le Barroux apparently) to use it even when not appointed explicitly, and it's tedious to type out.

Thanks so much. I've used this a lot over the years.

  1. It would be helpful to see your actual GABC. Custom tones work exactly the same as built in tones; make sure your reciting tone ends in r
  2. You can copy the neumes and paste them into the GABC side of the transcription editor and then use OPTION+⬆️ (on a Mac) or (I think) ALT+Up (but maybe CTRL+Up) on a PC.
  3. The built in psalm tones are defined here so you could add some and make a pull request.
  4. You should be able to set Begin Preparatory Syllable and End Preparatory Syllable both to blank to achieve this, right?
  5. I'm not sure what you're saying here. Are you talking about texts or a melody?

  1. Got it. I did read this, as I figured out the accent with prime/apostrophe but it was not really clear to me (since the regular punctum cavum function also works).

The neumes that belong over accented syllables are prefixed by an apostrophe and the dominant is marked as a punctum cavum, with an r

So now we're good!

  1. Hmm. I meant in the psalm tone tool for a custom tone. I entered the neumes correctly but forgot that this is a rare example of c3. So I changed the clef, and the neumes changed. It was easier to just retype everything

  2. Cool. I am working on that then.

  3. hmm. I think that in this case it should be blank, period, by default on further reflection.

  4. The festal tone (i.e. a melody) used on the most important feasts.

Hello to you both, Thank you so much Benjamin for all this incredible work. Regarding point number 5, I noticed with joy that the tone of the versicle for the feasts has been added (Solemnior). This is the versicle tone for first vespers, would it be possible to add the one for second vespers? I've tried a bit with the custom tones but haven't managed to get a satisfactory result. Here's a screenshot from the Liber Usualis p. 272. Thanks again! Capture d’écran 2024-10-30 à 12 17 03

Honestly I may fix that code. But in the meantime: I would just manually adjust the gabc.
