DPP Compliant?
Hi
Are there any plans to make this DPP compliant for delivery to broadcast channels in the UK and Europe?
JD
The priority from the funding to the project was to focus on the issues that arise from digitization of analog videotape, but qctools has including some broadcast tests. Could you be more specific on what is missing for DPP compliance?
If you talk about about AS-11 DPP Compliance Programme, this is more about tests on how the content is encoded and muxed in MXF, and QCTools is more focused on test about baseband content (the decoded content).
MediaConch would be more appropriate for AS-11 DPP tests because it is focused on how content is encoded and muxed, currently developed with MKV/FFV1/PCM in mind due to the wish from the initial sponsors but we are looking for sponsors for integrating all tests needed for AS-11 DPP.
The DPP is a Partnership set up for file delivery to all UK and some European Broadcasters using AS11 AVCIntra100 (MXF) containing metadata fields also for programme information etc, so need to meet a strict set of guidelines setup by them, see https://www.digitalproductionpartnership.co.uk.
It would be nice to include the option for DPP compliance in QCTools. But as mentioned most of the compliance requirement is the wrapper and metadata. In terms of the actual AV content its really just being within Broadcast levels and for QCTools to be useful for that it would need EBU Rec 103 2016 filtering options. And that would require conversion to RGB data from the YUV so we could have RGB gamut checking.
It would be nice
The question is how to get the corresponding financial sponsorship, if nobody is liking to implement that for free... Any suggestion about entities interested in such feature?
Indeed. DPP compliance and even Broadcast TV are a fairly limited market place and its generally only the larger organisations that can afford to fund such development and they then end up being proprietary.
