QCTools 0.9 crashing OS X 10.13.3/ No recording mode/ Audio phase scale.

Hi

I have recently installed OS X QCTools 0.9 for testing 10bit uncompressed PAL 720x576 Quicktime files. I am very impressed with what it can do. Nice job!

I am, however, experiencing frequent crashing when clicking on points within the timeline gui. The crashing appears to be worse if I have scanned multiple files at once.

Here is part of the Apple crash log: Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000010 Exception Note: EXC_CORPSE_NOTIFY

Computer: Model: iMac18,3, 4 processors, Intel Core i5, 3.4 GHz, 16 GB Ram OSX High Siera 10.13.3

Other issues:

  • Often when clicking a point in timeline to navigate to, the pink cursor jumps to a different position than what was selected.
  • I have a Thunderbolt Blackmagic Ultrastudio HD mini but it doesn't seem to be detected by QCtools (no recording option icon). I'm very keen to try the JPEG 2000 recording feature. BM Desktop video driver version is 10.9.7.
  • The audio phase filter scale goes from -.4 to +1. Info for this tool says it should be -1 to 1.

It would be great to have the crashing addressed.

Cheers, Adam

Thanks for this report. Regarding

Often when clicking a point in timeline to navigate to, the pink cursor jumps to a different position than what was selected.

Does this happen only when interacting with the audio graphs? If so this may be a duplicate of https://github.com/bavc/qctools/issues/90.

At one point we were trying to integrate recording into QCTools, but unfortunately didn't get far enough with the available resources to get something stable. You may be interested in trying https://github.com/amiaopensource/vrecord for recording jpeg2000 with blackmagic devices.

Yes I've been noticing this to, I think I can add y-axis plotting constraints here.

With the crashing, can you share more details about the file or circumstances. Could you run ffmpeg -i INPUT on that file and share the output?

Thanks for your reply. Answers below.

Does this happen only when interacting with the audio graphs? No, this frequently happens on all video filter graphs but only when zoomed in. The issue does not occur when selecting points with the timeline fully zoomed out. I've attached a zipped MP4 demonstrating the issue.

The crashing seems to occur randomly. It often occurs when long files (20mins+) are loading. After crashing the same file can load fine and testing can proceed without crashes. At other times the program will crash while attempting to select points on the timeline. On occasion the video preview window will stop updating but you can still navigate in timeline for a while before the program crashes.

I've attached the FFmpeg output that you requested.

Cheers, Adam.

I hope I'm not derailing here, but is there a reason why your 720/576 files have an aspect ratio of DAR 787:576? What tool is creating this file?

@AdamNgaTaonga could you please provide full crash log (and even better crash dump) ?

ElderOrb> Here are a couple QCTools OSX crash logs. The log dated 2018-02-23 relates to the file that I provided FFMPEG output info for. The crash dated 2018-02-26 occurred today on a different uncompressed mov when attempting to activate the video preview window- after file had scanned.

Hi @AdamNgaTaonga, could you test the same scenario with the current code. There's instructions at https://github.com/bavc/qctools#via-homebrew-1 or nightly builds at https://mediaarea.net/download/snapshots/binary/qctools/

Thanks for the new version.

  1. It was looking promising at first but still crashing upon scanning longer uncompressed quicktimes. I can click around files on successfully scanned files without crashing.

  2. The issue of the cursor not navigating to where I click on the graph when zoomed in is still present. This issue does not occur on an older Mac I use. Thanks for taking time to look into this. Much appreciated. I will provide some more details next week after further testing.

Hey @AdamNgaTaonga, we had a significant refactor. Can you test with the recent daily builds at https://mediaarea.net/download/snapshots/binary/qctools/. If still an issue, please reopen.
