[feature] progress sync like koreader

Open PhieF opened this issue 5 years ago • 5 comments

Hi, Just a feature description I would like to see one day Koreader uses an interesting way to sync progress across devices, I guess it would be great for plato

https://github.com/koreader/koreader/wiki/Progress-sync

And the selfhostable server

https://github.com/koreader/koreader-sync-server

Koreader host their own server, for users without any sysadmin knowledge

Once again, thanks for your great job !

I believe this feature could be more general, like storing the progress on Dropbox, if implemented we could also download books from this shared drive account. Which could be nice feature too...

the issue with syncing is you need a compatible app on the other side to be useful. Koreader has no corresponding app for iOS and you need to build your own andoid app and load it in order to use the sync, which makes it much less useful IMO.

Are there any other apps that could do a bi-directional sync of reading position to dropbox that Plato could use?

No koreader is fully available on android. But the sync server seems really easy to implement on other apps, so...

is it? I thought it was still not in the Play Store and needed to be built and sideloaded. I don't use android so I was never able to test it out myself.

Also, I wasn't aware of any iOS reader apps that were open-sourced to take a stab at adding the koreader sync, easy or not.
