Screen dim leads to black screen

Open nagy135 opened this issue 4 years ago • 2 comments

For I while I notice this issue, when I let my notebook sit for a while it gets into black screen and never comes back. Only thing that seems to make screen appear is to switch to another tty and back again. I already noticed reddit thread where disabling dpms seems to solve the issue. I also run dwm 50% of the time and issue doesnt happen there. I m running intel graphics card:

❯ lspci | grep Graphics
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation HD Graphics 620 (rev 02)
❯ bspwm -v
0.9.10

For now I disabled dpms and it seems like that was the issue, but that probably doesnt count as "solution". Any help would be appreaciated.

Edit: After disabling dpms my issue still persists and I noticed my cursor is still visible, it even changes shape (over text that is below, not visible) but everything else is black.

I noticed in your dots that you're using xset -dpms to disable dpms, but you've commented out xset s off -dpms. According to this article, the first command turns off dpms, but the second one also disables screen blanking.

Does xset -s off dpms not fix the problem?

EDIT: oops, I read over

Sorry

Good observation, will try asap ...but point of this issue is why is this happening at all, not how to disable dpms to prevent it. I know my setup is not faulty since dwm does not do it

Edit: it works, meaning it gets rid of dimming and proves that that is the issue...I cant really call that solution tho, so maybe someone else can help me debug this
