Updating message text hides a list

Describe the bug When you have a window with both a message and a list visible, when you update the message text the list disappears

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Open a dialog window containing both a message and a list
2. Update the message using the command file
3. Observe that the list disappears until you run "list: show"

Expected behavior The message should update without changing the list to hidden
