Can I fresh install Big Sur 11.0.1 on iMac 21" late 2013? If Apple released updates, will iMac can be to update just like supported devices? Thank you so much.

Does your iMac have a Fusion Drive? There have been reports about degraded performance with those. I'm also tempted to make the jump, in my case I've a iMac 27" Late 2013 which I replaced the HDD with a SSD. Still, not sure if I should wait till the patch reaches 1.0 or I could just jump in using the current version.

Btw, from where can we get the Big Sur image, other than the App Store?

My iMac doesn't comes with Fusion Drive, but I replaced HDD with a SSD. I think Big Sur image from App Store will be safer than where else. Except, if someone in here can verify a good image to download.

If you have to ask where to download it, I would suggest waiting for the next patcher release, v0.5.2. It will be out in the next day or so. (To be honest, I would prefer that new users wait for the release after v0.5.2, probably v0.5.3, but that could take 1-2 weeks.)

Right now, updates are handled by downloading a new copy of Big Sur, repatching, and installing it on top of the existing installation -- more or less repeating the process that is used to install Big Sur in the first place. This is not the update process that is typically used on supported Macs, but it's based on an alternate update process for supported Macs, and it's good enough for now (and for roughly the next year or so, actually).

Thanks a lot, I will hold on until the mentioned update. I’m not in a rush.

You can use this link. It will download straight from Apple.

If you cannot use your browser to download, try using the following command:

curl http://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/19/41/001-83532-A_LN5NT1FB2Z/o4zodwe2nhyl7dh6cbuokn9deyfgsiqysn/InstallAssistant.pkg -o ~/Downloads/InstallAssistant.pkg
