Microsoft Word make PC very slow / hangs when opening files in "encrypted drive"

When I open a file in "encrypted drive", Microsoft Word make my PC very slow / hangs. (Showing the Word splash screen, sometimes before showing the splash screen) I tried opening *.doc *.docx *.rtf, same behavior.

I am using Win 7 x64 Office Professional Plus 2016

I'm using Office 2010 and Windows 10 and don't see this behavior.

Are you syncing the filesystem with a cloud service? If so, could you try pausing syncing and see if it still happens?

Thanks for reply. I am not syncing the filesystem to any cloud service.

What do you mean by "encrypted drive"? Just to be clear and rule out any confusion, do we agree that in normal mode (not reverse mode):

  • there is a mounting point (drive letter or custom folder) where the files are showed in clear, where we can work, open word files etc. normally; and
  • there is an encrypted folder where the files really are, with the same names if the file name encryption was not selected, but where the files are encrypted, and thus impossible to open or work on?

According to this terminology, if we agree on it, it is perfectly normal (and wanted) that you cannot open files in the "encrypted folder". Then the way Word crashes on a file that is not a proper word file (because of encryption or whatever other reason) is Microsoft's responsibility.
