[META] Backdrop in one click install collections
In the weekly Outreach meetings, we frequently talk about how to get in front of folks that are looking for a CMS but not already aware of Backdrop CMS. Getting listed in these one click installer programs would be great. The problem is that we have little control over access to these installers.
We had this issue in the core issue queue for a long time, but we are moving it hear because it's really a community and/or outreach issue.
Here are some examples (copied from old issue).

Backdrop CMS + CyberPanel One-Click Install
Email from Softaculous this am:
Hi Andy,
On your request we have added Backdrop CMS in our scripts list : http://www.softaculous.com/apps/cms/Backdrop_CMS
Here users get the details about Backdrop CMS such as Overview, Features, Screenshots and users can also write their reviews, rate the script etc.
To spread awareness about Backdrop CMS integration with Softaculous we were looking forward to seeing if you could add a small note and Softaculous logo on Backdrop CMS download page & in your installation notes stating that Backdrop CMS can now be installed easily with just one click via Softaculous.
Let us know if this is possible.

Can we mention them somehow?
Can we mention them somehow?
Yes! I think we should add this on the "more ways to try" page.
@docwilmot do you know what we can do (if anything) to help them stay up to date when we have new releases?
Noting that, as discussed during the outreach meeting today, we should also add this to our "Backdrop News" dashboard block.
ping @stpaultim ^^

I think they may pull from GitHub. They haven't requested any further involvement from us. Maybe add monitoring them to our release agenda for a few releases and if they not updating we could have that discussion?
That's a great idea.
FTR, some flavor of Backdrop (by "Miri Infotech" ❓ 🤷🏼 ) is offered as an option in the Google Cloud Platform:

There is a "Deployment Instructions" link that points to https://www.cloud.miritech.com/Google%20Cloud/backdropcms.aspx?id=DeploymentInstructions
The default setup is on the expensive side of things:

...for comparison, here's the pricing for a WordPress 5 instance:

...and a D9 instance:

...we should be able to copy and edit the Drupal recipe from https://github.com/GoogleCloudPlatform/click-to-deploy/tree/master/vm/chef/cookbooks/drupal and file a PR. I've raised an issue about it here: https://github.com/GoogleCloudPlatform/click-to-deploy/issues/1401

In the Backdrop screenshot above, I see a "Backdrop CMS Usage Fee" of USD 80.30. Is it even allowed to request a usage fee for an open source product?
Even if this is a private initiative of Miri from Infotech (I don't know who it is), the price seems very high. ;-)
Update: Now I know - https://www.miritech.com/about-miri.aspx#about3 Update 2: Not so clean for me this business model, but another example from same provider - https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/search/results?ref_=nav_search_box&searchTerms=miri
Is it even allowed to request a usage fee for an open source product?
Sure. That's how lots of Linux companies (e.g., Red Hat) make their money. You can charge for doing things with GPL2; you just have to make the source available.
News on the Installatron front!
Phil from Development here.
We have a number of requests for Backdrop and are working to get it added as soon as possible. You can expect to see it in about a week.
Thank you, Phil
