Dock keeps resetting to the left after picking apps

On my phone I have it set to show many recent apps, but when I scroll to the right to pick an app, it always instantly resets back to the leftmost side of the dock (and then I must scroll back to the right to return to my previous position). Is there any way to prevent this behavior and just keep the partial dock view always wherever I scroll it to? Thanks!
