Decoding onto cylinder texture
Right now, if you manage to look outside the field of view, it's just straight-up black.
Maybe somehow interpolate the edges? maybe use openGL clamp or something?
Something I saw on CNN a while ago when they wanted to stretch a square video to widescreen, was they would just take the left and right edges and stretch them out (the first and last N columns, where N is relatively small). Although I don't know how good it looked.
Oculus timewarp does a ... similar thing?
