Run without storage permissions
So when you download it can place the images into your storage, like most things when you download
And please be honest are you really saying this is a scam because of permission for storage on an app that is used to Save and read manga / doujinshi
Let's start with the basics : what exactly did you expect from Hentoid when you installed it ?
As SirBlackEnergy remarked, our github front page says "Hentoid is an ad-free Doujinshi & H-Manga archiving and viewing app.", and our promotional art says "DOWNLOAD" in big bold red letters.
But let's ask other way, if you ONLY read and NOT download. What for is then device storage used for?

If you skip the storage selection step and use Hentoid to browse only, the storage credentials are indeed useless. I should make sure the app can work minimalistically if you choose to refuse them.
I beg to differ, this is something we should definitely have. I don't see why that issue has to be closed.
For android above 7.0 this permission should not be required. Siplified storage mechanism can be found inside this library https://github.com/google/modernstorage
