Would also be nice as a Guard plugin — really, anything that automatically catches icon changes and regenerates your font. Beginning of the conversation here:

Biggest blocker at the moment for automating hieroglyph is that it doesn't produce a useable file. Until you use a third-party service to convert your .svg font, hieroglyph's output is useless.

This is the next big hurdle — how can we automate the conversion from SVG to TTF/EOT/WOFF, especially without installing FontForge?

I have to find a way to generate fonts too.
