For example, if you do not have access to the photo frame, but only to the cloud storage. Cable providers usually do not assign public IPs and you cannot access the device remotely via SSH. PhotOS checks every perhaps 5 minutes whether the remote_settings.txt file is on the cloud and then changes the parameters accordingly. E.g. shuffle, screen on/off times, ...
