Deprecated extension status

Open digitarald opened this issue 2 years ago • 2 comments

Hi @austin-----,

this is Harald from the VS Code team. VS Code now supports deprecated extensions, which the team currently manually curates.

Your extension has been very popular extension and showing up high in user searches – but it was last updates 5 years ago, this repo last pushed to 3 years ago, and issues are piling up on breakage and performance issues.

As it doesn't seem maintained I did go ahead and marked your extension as deprecated. In case you disagree, please comment here and we can update the status.

Thank you for contributing to the VS Code ecosystem.

Regards, Harald

@digitarald It seems that marking an extension as "deprecated" makes it impossible to install in vscode. I would consider renaming this feature.

The microsoft provided extension makes my VM freeze up for 1-3 mins after every keypress. I would much prefer to use gtags as needed which this extension provides. I don't understand how you can say that issues are "piling up" here when the Microsoft provided C++ extension has over 20 times more issues.

@dvtate thanks for the feedback and sorry about the frustration the deprecation caused. Deprecation allows a message-only mode as well. When I added this extension based on reviews and issues filed in this repo it seemed that restricting installation is best for users.

I just updated VS Code's deprecated list to allow installation given your arguments about missing support (takes a few days for review/push). If you didn't have a chance yet, it would be great to have these issues reports to the C++ extension as well.
