Application blur stops working when settings window is closed
The blur effect for a specifically enabled application stops working as soon as the Extensions app is closed. The blur is applied correctly while the Extension app window is open, but disappears immediately upon closing it.
Steps to Reproduce:
- Install and enable the "Blur My Shell" extension (v68).
- Open the "Blur My Shell" settings and navigate to the "Applications" section.
- Enable blurring for any app by adding it to the whitelist.
- Observe that the app window is now correctly blurred.
- Close the "Blur My Shell" settings window and then the Extension app window.
- Observe that the blur effect on the Obsidian window disappears.
Expected Behavior:
The blur effect on the Obsidian window should persist even after the "Blur My Shell" settings window is closed.
Actual Behavior:
The blur effect on the Obsidian window disappears as soon as the "Blur My Shell" settings window is closed.
System Information:
- Operating System: Ubuntu 24.04
- GNOME Shell Version: 46
- Blur My Shell Version: 68
i have the same exact issue except that the blur is gone not just when closing the extensions app but also when minimizing it or not keeping it in focus System Information:
- Operating System: Ubuntu 25.04
- GNOME Shell Version: 48
- Blur My Shell Version: 69
I can also confirm that the same behavior exists with zen browser after enabling transparency, i hope this is fixed soon
Experiencing this same issue. Any leads?
Update For me, it was that I had "Opaque focused window" selected in Applications. Because Gnome terminal is opaque when not focused already, it just looked like it wasn't working at all once the Extension settings were closed. Deselecting this toggle made it work as expected.
I highly recommend defaulting "Opaque focused window" to off. It isn't the expected behavior, and causes confusion.
Opaque focused window
thanks man, it worked! finally i can enjoy the beauty of blurred zed and zen background
