Cast a shadow on a transparent top bar

In the overview, desktops have a shadow, and they have it as soon as we start swiping. When focused on a desktop, the shadow isn't there, which usually isn't an issue as it's covered by the opaque top bar. The issue is that with a transparent top bar, the shadow appears and disappears abruptly.

The shadow actually is pretty neat, it helps splitting the top bar from the desktop and it keeps the semantics consistent acros modes, maybe there's a way to keep it in desktop mode when the top bar is transparent? Maybe only the top part could be drawn to limit the power consumption.

Alternatively, maybe the shadow could be animated to appear or disappear quickly? That would at least avoid its abrupt appearance and disappearance.

Desktop mode, no shadow below the transparent top bar

Overview mode, we can see the desktop's shadow completely

Personally, I find this rather neat. It adds to the feedback
