Where are my files

Open stephenhambling opened this issue 7 years ago • 5 comments

I'm a complete newbie. I've just downloaded Ethercalc to a std Windows 2008 server. I can run Ethercalc in the browser and create spreadsheets. I want to be able to edit/create the spreadsheets externally to Ethercalc, and then pass them to others to edit (and then extract data from them) I am trying to find which folder the files are saved in. By folder I mean c:/blah/blah, not http://myhost/gggggggh. Please can you assist, I've been trying all day. I'm quite surprised at the lack of basic documentation on this. Regards Steve

Spreadsheet files

Download as csv/excel using the disk icon https://i.imgur.com/CRGbU1T.png?1

e.g. https://ethercalc.org/ma7rils23qhq has a disk icon top left.

The files are in the database. So The only way to pass the file to someone else would be to backup the data and restore.

Online spreadsheet

You could create on https://ethercalc.org/ - but these are open to everyone. Or sandstorm https://apps.sandstorm.io/app/a0n6hwm32zjsrzes8gnjg734dh6jwt7x83xdgytspe761pe2asw0 has private access and sharing options.

Thanks. I understand how to download a file - but how do I then open it again in Ethercalc?

Regards

Steve

See "Drop a .csv, .ods, or a .xlsx file here to import it" on https://ethercalc.org/

I think this is a valid question / feature request. It seems that exporting to CSV/ODS/Excel/HTML is not lossless (export to CSV and HTML will lose formulas; export to ODS/Excel seems to lose colors). It would be nice to be able to export and import in the native format of ethercalc.

View ethercalc sheet data

Try: domain.com/_/sheetname

https://sheet.cellmaster.com.au/_/examples

Via clipboard

The clipboard tab has "SocialCalc-save format"

Rest API

To automate, use the rest API

Write sheet to server: https://ethercalc.docs.apiary.io/#reference/0/page/overwrite-with-socialcalc
