Simulating Enter key has no effect in Zathura

I'm trying to automate typing in a command and pressing Enter in Zathura. For example:

sleep 2; wtype :info -k return

If I run this in a terminal and quickly switch focus to Zathura's window, within 2 seconds, I can see :info appear in the status bar, but pressing Enter is not simulated.

I can reproduce this in Sway, running on Arch Linux as well as on postmarketOS Edge (with Sxmo).
