Cannot stage changes, make commits, make branches

Description

github plugin can only create repos, no other function works. I cannot create branches, using the New Branch option just closes the dialog box when I hit enter. I cannot stage any changes, the button does nothing when pressed. I cannot create detatched commits, a blocked symbol appears when mousing over the button.

Steps to Reproduce

1.Open project in Atom 2. Attempt to stage changes 3. Expected behavior:

Changes are staged, commit is possible

Actual behavior:

Changes can't be staged
