Feature Request: Option to disable Smart Commits
I would like to make a feature request about adding a configuration option which would make it possible to disable the Jira Smart Commits feature.
I have been in contact with Atlassian support, and according to them that is something which needs to be configured on an application level, given that that is where all the logic is implemented. That configuration appear to have been available in the old DVCS connector, according to the Enable Smart Commits documentation, and would presumably need to be similarly made available in this new GitHub/Jira app. Atlassian support also suggested that I mention that we are using Jira Cloud, since there appear to be implementation differences between different Jira products.
The main reason that we really need to be able to disable the Smart Commits feature, rather than simply abstain from using it, is that Smart Commits comments appear to make it really easy to impersonate someone else. From what I can see those Jira comments simply end up being posted on behalf of whatever Jira user whose email address matches the email address in the commit's Author field.
Hi @andreaso. I'm from a team at Atlassian that is currently in the process of migrating the ownership over to us from GitHub. As a part of this, we're currently going through the backlog of issues and prs to see what can still be addressed and what should be closed.
We have a ticket in our backlog to address this issue and will update you when we can. Stay tuned 😄
Good to hear, thanks!
