Apparently Chocolat shits itself in Japanese input mode. I'm not sure if this is a function of the input mode, the kanji, all non-unicode characters, or what.
Japanese input mode is quite aggressive, randomly (at least to me!) adding, replacing and deleting characters in the text as you type. Is the input mode necessary to cause the issues? An aggravating factor? Unrelated? My bet is on the second: the Japanese input mode exacerbates whatever unicode-related problem is in there already.
