Menu Item: choose workspace directory

With the new go to anything it would be even more convenient if I just could define the workspace root with cmd+d.

Right now I have to use the mouse and click the bottom left corner each time to open a different directory.

Also, the new cmd+shift+d would benefit from it, as I could select a new directory by keyboard only.

I wish @fileability would look at this… :)

Here's a trick: right click on a folder in the source list, then "open in new window"

I know that already. It does not help with folders that are not part of the current workspace.

I see, but cmd-D only works within the current workspace. So I am having trouble imagining the UI here.

cmd-D could be used inside a workspace, to call the menu item, in which you then could change the workspace to something completely different.
