how we can make this strategy support https://drive.google.com/file/d/13t0-YMGyq4F1m82jLS3q-qxUXZyuFz4C/view

slide 4 and 5 - we offer certain benefits - and how we can get marketing to make this benefits shiny and a great offer

examples:

  • if we offer posts on social media - what strategy we have to increase the social media engagement
  • if we offer logo placement in spec repo or website - what strategy we have to increase traffic to these websites
  • if we offer a great benefit of newsletter mention - what strategy we can have to increase subscribers of the newsletter

you know what I mean?

I'm going through it. I'll figure out how it can be added.

It's updated now. @thulieblack @derberg

I'm going through it. I'll figure out how it can be added.

I managed to find info about the goal of increasing social media performance and newsletter promotion. I see nothing about website traffic.

What is missing the most is a strategy—how do you want to achieve it? What's the plan?

I'm not sure I get what you are saying, @derberg

Strategy in what aspect? The social media or website traffic. Because I remembered adding all the details to the document and you suggested taking some things out. Each goal has a tactic beside it, which means how they are going to be implemented. Can you help me understand your request better?

Also, the website was not added, but I can add that now.

I'm missing "the link" between each. Maybe the answer is "you should not look for such a link". I don't know.

Just one basic example of what puzzles me:

Goals that I see in the document: "Promote the newsletter in the community for more visibility."

Objectives: there are no metrics defined for the newsletter, like subscriptions count, view/read rate, etc.

Strategy: no specific strategy how to do this. Any campaigns? any actions? or do we simply count on an increase in newsletter visibility because of the other generic actions like mentorships or webinars.

Hi Bami, there are some reviews not addressed but it's okay let me put them here as a comment:

  • On increasing maintainers, how does marketing plan to drive this? What's the objective, and why is it under Marketing rather than Community? It would be helpful to see an execution plan and what steps will be taken to drive this.
  • For webinars and workshops, since Ace and I already host these occasionally, have you considered improving existing efforts? Also, we have a podcast and mentioned too here, but how do you plan for content?
  • Another review you are missing is the sponsor strategy. From the offers we're giving, how do we plan to increase traffic to the website and boost social media engagement from the marketing aspect?

The plan to execute the objectives is missing from the strategy. What are your proposed solutions? What specific steps will be taken to achieve this strategy? You need clear deliverables that help make these objectives more actionable.

Hi @thulieblack

If you are talking about objectives that are not mentioned, I get it. Obviously, the plan to execute them is not there. However, if you are talking about the goals that are currently in the strategy, there are plans to execute them, and the plans are clear with a content calendar and metrics board included.

Hence my confusion.

Hi @derberg @thulieblack

I just included the sponsor's strategy and the podcast as well. Every other detail will be a sub-document.

iambami avatar Mar 26 '25 14:03 iambami

I think we are not aligned here as not there is a lot of sponsor specific items in the strategy

there are no metrics defined for the newsletter, like subscriptions count, view/read rate, etc.

I don't think it is addressed

From the offers we're giving, how do we plan to increase traffic to the website and boost social media engagement from the marketing aspect

the question is how we plan to increase traffic to channels where we promote sponsors. And instead you've now put a lot of many additional perks for the sponsors, special podcast and things - we do not offer these things in the sponsor prospectus.

let me share an example:

prospectus mentions that the sponsor will have a logo located on the website. Now, how do we make sure that huge number of people will see the logo - how we want to increase the traffic to the website

prospectus mentions sponsors will have Product placement in newsletter. Now, how do we make sure that newsletter subscriptions grow, and we have more and more not only subscribers but also higher read rate.

do you know what I mean? like what marketing strategy to get the number up. So later when I go to sponsors, in prospectus I can have like pretty big numbers basically

derberg avatar Mar 26 '25 16:03 derberg

All the metrics, including the newsletter, are on the metrics board. @derberg

The metrics in the strategy doc is an overview; they are further broken down in the metrics board.

iambami avatar Mar 26 '25 16:03 iambami

Bami, I think let's put it as an example:

We have GhostAPI as a Platinum sponsor, and part of their sponsorship is a social media announcement. On the metrics board, you have these numbers in place for growing engagement image

Now, what we are missing is the "how." How do you plan to increase the engagement numbers for GhostAPI?

When we go back to GhostAPI, we can easily show them in numbers how the strategy in place improved their visibility as proof and part of their sponsorship benefit.

It goes back to what I mentioned earlier, which is that the execution plan of the whole strategy is missing. The How!

thulieblack avatar Mar 26 '25 17:03 thulieblack

Maybe we should have an in-depth pair review of the strategy doc. I don't know when the next marketing meeting will be. But explaining it synchronously will clear the confusion.

thulieblack avatar Mar 26 '25 17:03 thulieblack

I understand.

This document has been dragging for a while. I will give it another look tomorrow. If the points are still missing, we can all jump on a call on Friday. I don’t think it should wait till the next marketing meeting.
