Make a series of videos related to contributing to open source/software education

Open astrofrog opened this issue 4 years ago • 8 comments

As I suggested at the March 2021 coordination meeting, one 'easy' way to reach many junior people/students would be to make a series of short videos e.g. taking people through doing a pull request, writing tests, etc. (things we might cover in an in-person workshop). A lot of students these days learn through videos, and this would be much more cost-effective than going to places in person and giving workshops.

"cost effective" not just as in $, but even more importantly in "developer time" which is far more valuable!

I would suggest to reach out to the numpy team, as I recall the idea of these kind of videos came up there, too. So I envision many of these how-to videos could be part of a shared project.

Hopefully the videos will be "timeless" enough that we don't have to remake it every few months.

Is this issue still relevant? I don't think we ever got around to it.
