"given a spectrum and bandpass profiles, predict mag and color" is done in https://synphot.readthedocs.io , which is not (yet) astropy-affiliated. Hence, it is currently out of scope?
I think it's fair to look ahead to synphot being an affiliated, if not coordinated, project so I think this is very in scope. Indeed, I think it's one of the tutorials that I would like to see written ASAP.
Jackie Radigan (@jmradigan) just mentioned to me that she's written some and looping her into this convo.
Where should these tutorials live? I just looked at one @jmradigan wrote for Chapter 10 on stellar interiors, but it has no astropy use at the moment. I vote we still house them here. If need be, someone can take a look at it and add some astropy content. Other thoughts?
Hi @kelle, I am interested in pursuing this issue further. May be able to contribute tutorials in this direction on a regular basis for the time being.
I just browsed through my copy of "Carrol and Ostlie", some obvious codes, and hence tutorials, I can probably contribute in the near future include the ones based on Appendices I, J, K, L, and M. So those can serve as some kind of a starting point for me.
