Issue to discuss funding a FITS Maintainer, PR #280. Project Description. $11,520.00 for open hire , funded from the NASA grant (please submit invoices here).

@astrofrog has been offered and accepted this role - as an active member of the community who has experience in the area, it is a natural choice, and he has expressed interested in taking on the role of maintainer as well!

I'd like to request an extension of this funding until 30th April 2024, which should give plenty of time to bill the remaining hours. Please let me know if you need any information to support this request. Thanks!

@astrofrog: Should we expect more invoices for this project? According to our records, there are $4,770 remaining and the contract was actually extended until Dec 30, 2024.

I have submitted invoice '136003 - GUK221' for November 2023 to September 2024, which I believe should be the last invoice. Future FITS maintenance work on my part will be billed as part of https://github.com/astropy/astropy-project/issues/408
