Create photo album of project over the years

I realized recently that we don't really have a place to keep photos of various Astropy project meet-ups over the years, and thought that it might be nice to have a central place where we can collect a curated set of photos, including especially group photos. However, I'm not sure what the best way to do this would be, so I'm curious whether anyone might have some ideas about this.

One option for example is to use Google Photos, but with that, if you share an album, anyone with the link can add photos, and I don't see a way to control who can add photos while also having a public-facing read-only link.

Another option (I feel obliged to suggest) would be a git repository with a dynamically generated jekyll album. That would make it easy for people to submit photos via PRs and have a public read-only link, but we'd need to be very picky with what photos to keep given and avoid storing full-resolution photos. That might force us to be picky though!

Are there any good solutions anyone can recommend? I think the requirements that I can see are:

  • Ability to control who can add photos
  • Optionally have it so anyone can propose photos that get moderated
  • Ability to have a public read-only link
  • Not too constraining in terms of size
  • Ability to download an archive/backup

Would anyone be interested in helping me set up whatever ends up being the best solution and curating the photos?
