Version 2023.12 here. Point-based gluing sometimes works fine, sometimes gives a very wrong result. It appears that when it fails, the resulting alignment is rotated 180 degrees (haven't checked exactly)....

This also happens when creating a plane fitting some points. (Filter "Fit a plane to selection"). The view is totally reset and changed from ortho to perspective.
