[feature] automatic creation of dumpfile

Open asksven opened this issue 12 years ago • 5 comments

User to decide to go into auto-dump mode. at Screen-On an automatic "since screen off" dumfile is created and notified.

Benefits: the user does not have to do anything, the timespan is not "till now" but really for the time the screen was off

Mmmm, is it really a duplicate? I mean, it does fit the "active monitoring" topic, yes, but implementation-wise is it not easier to rollout just this part (perhaps as an extension of the watchdog, when the screen off time was bigger than X minutes) instead of waiting for the whole thing? We keep seeing people posting "bad" dumpfiles and if the effort for this is small, it would be a quick-win.

Maybe its usefull to implement a history function, FIFO 5 instances? Otherwise the dumpcount will grow and grow.. :)

Now that you mention that, let me clarify that I wasn't thinking of continuously generating dumps whenever you turn on the screen after e.g. at least 4h idle. I was imagining about a one-time operation after an explicit request from the user for "next time". That's the quick-win I was referring to, anyway. But a continuous mode is certainly a scenario, of course, although perhaps more in line with the "active monitoring" behavior.
