This data source works only starting with Terraform `v0.12` and therefore example is HCL2 that is default since that version. Given that it's impossible to use it with earlier versions...

This has not been stated explicitly in the document but all examples are in HCL2.0 that is supported since Terraform `v0.12`. What would be the reasons for reverting to HCL1?
