Support for HEIC image files

Could Aseprite support opening HEIC files? This is the file format used by iPhones to save photos, for example. Support for opening HEIC images in Aseprite would eliminate the step of first opening the HEIC file in Preview to save it as a JPEG before opening the JPEG in Aseprite.

couldn't this issue be solved if aseprite automates the process of converting the heic pic to jpeg

Conversion to JPEG is a lossy process. And anyway, if Aseprite can read HEIC well enough to write a JPEG, then it can read it well enough to display it.
