chore(golang-rewrite): remove old Bash implementation code

This PR exists to remind me to remove this code in several months once the stability of the new Go implementation has been validated.

Do not merge this until the GitHub action has been updated to default to 0.15.0. The action currently relies on the Bash code on the master branch, and once this PR is merged that code will be gone.
