Okay, but for people who didn't use brew to install SSL, what is --with-ssl supposed to point at?

The binary? The headers? Something else?

None of this is documented.

The prefix command shows the directory with the following content :

ls /opt/homebrew/opt/[email protected]
AUTHORS			INSTALL_RECEIPT.json	NEWS			bin			lib
CHANGES			LICENSE			README			include			share

There is no such directory that I could locate if you use the default make instructions for OpenSSL.
