ENTER Key not working - Linux Mint 19.

Open NormanDunbar opened this issue 6 years ago • 9 comments

Hi there. I have the latest (as of today January 31, 2019) version of AsciidocFX installed on Windows 7 and Linux Mint 19, both are 64 bit and both use the included JRE as opposed to a JRE elsewhere on the desktop.

On the Mint version, pressing the ENTER key within the editing area has no effect and I cannot insert new lines anywhere in my documents. This works fine on the Windows 7 version. The problem exists when I create a new book, edit an existing one of my own, or, edit the sample book supplied with the application.

I'm able to use CTRL-M to insert new lines, but it's a bit of a faff as you can imagine as it minimises and maximises the editing area each time.

I think it could be related to http://mail.openjdk.java.net/pipermail/openjfx-dev/2018-April/021729.html perhaps? I'm not a Java developer, so I'm not able to help much here I'm afraid, other than by testing.

Oh, yes, I have installed the Microsoft Fonts too, on Linux.

Cheers, Norm.

Sorry folks, while I appreciate the time and effort people put into Open Source development, and I do quite a lot myself, I'm unable to use AsciidocFX with this bug/feature/foible still in place. I'd love to help, but I'm probably the world's worst Java Programmer, so I'm unable to do anything, sorry.

I shall uninstall AsciidocFX later today as it's currently, sadly, unusable. :(

Best regards, Norm.

Sorry, I have no chance to investigate this issue. I plan to release version 1.7.0 which uses OpenJFX 12, I hope the issue disappear with this release.

No problem @rahmanusta I know what it's like. I'll keep an eye out for the new version and I'll give it a try.

Cheers, Norm.

Can you please try v1.7.0 https://github.com/asciidocfx/AsciidocFX/releases/tag/v1.7.0 ?

Morning @rahmanusta - I downloaded the 1.7.0 version onto my Linux Mint laptop and it still shows the same problem I'm afraid - the ENTER key has no effect. I also tried the new version with Manjaro Linux too - just to get a different perspective from a vastly different distro, and that has the same problem I'm afraid. :(

Cheers, Norm.

New release is available https://github.com/asciidocfx/AsciidocFX/releases/tag/v1.7.4 Please check if that fix your issue.

Good Afternoon @rahmanusta . Many thanks for the 1.7.4 update.

Sadly, I'm still unable to get any response to the ENTER key when used on Linux Mint. I'm now at version 20.1 of Mint and I'm afraid that the original problem has not gone away.

As before, the problem manifests when I crate a new document, or if I attempt to edit the sample provided. It's all very weird. I no longer have Windows running on my laptop to be able to see if the problem still doesn't exist there - but I assume you would have heard if Windows users did have this problem.

If I get a chance later on, I'll see if I can set up a VM and install a non-Ubuntu based distro and give it a try out.

Cheers, Norm.

Good Afternoon @rahmanusta .

I've just created a new VM on my Mint Linux laptop and installed Fedora 34 64bit. After downloading AsciidocFX 1.7.4 and unzipping, I discovered that none of my typing was accepted! I could paste in admonitions and headers etc from the menu options, but typing was simply not accepted.

However, I exited and restarted the system, and typing worked fine after that.

Sadly, as with the Mint version, I am completely unable to type in a carriage return at the end of any lines. So the same problem still exists I'm afraid.

Obviously, there's something weird with my laptop I suspect, as you would be inundated with issues if the ENTER key didn't work for everyone.

I can copy a carriage return character and paste it quite happily, that works. I can use the ENTER key within the embedded Terminal app, that also works. I checked the log for my attempted session, but there was nothing at all there other than an INFO message about the file browser being relisted.

I am obviously using AsciidocFX with the embedded JRE and not the JRE installed on my laptop.

Cheers, Norm.

UPDATE: I received an email from "life888888" with the following content:

_This is a JavaFX bug, I report the bug at 2022/05 to Java Bug Database.

https://bugs.java.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=8286831

https://bugs.java.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=8286852

May be only use chinese input method user will have the problem.

I knew it's not AsciidocFX bug , it is a JavaFX bug , so I test and report it to Java Bug Database._

So, it appears to be a problem outwith JavaFX.

Cheers, Norm.
