@aschroder Please have a look on this PR and #162. These PR's are for the very same problem.

We also came across this issue today on a large production website, with hundreds of emails being queued but not delivered due to an issue with one email address. @aschroder If you could please merge this in as this is a fairly critical issue. Many thanks.
