I would like to bring forward the notion that this may not be on the responsibilities that fall on a Pond server, but rather, on the front–end HTTP server (e.g. Apache, nginx, etc.)

Do you have a very specific use–case in mind where this can't be satisfied by the front–end?

No mostly I wasn't thinking about a frontend server at all, but perhaps you're right.
