Have you heard of SPIFFE (https://spiffe.io)? It's a CNCF project that Scytale (https://www.scytale.io) and others are driving to provide organizations with a platform-agnostic way of attesting a system before giving it a cryptographic identity that's currently encoded in an x.509 certificate (JWT is forthcoming). Thought you might find the project interesting.
