Recursive Sans axis defaults are showing up even if another font is loaded

When I load in a custom VF (e.g. Name Sans), the default axis values for Recursive are still injected. So, I have to specifically go into the Name Sans style menu to select a specific style, before going back and selecting what should be the default, [Inherit page styles].

For instance, here is the CSS that shows up when I load in Name Sans:

If I click on a specific style, then back to [Inherit page styles], I get what I hope for from the start:

However, if I reload a new version of Name Sans (e.g. if I have made a design tweak and want to test a new build), the unintended CSS comes back:

This issue seems to have been introduced with a8d90b671b3e60c8b74435464c772330ee0fdacc, so it may have been a side effect of updating the dependencies, or updating Recursive.
