Completely disable nvidia gpu

Open DiogoSilva48 opened this issue 6 years ago • 2 comments

Hi, my laptop has Intel + Nvidia gpu, I think they are both used in ChromiumOS all the time, Would it be possible to fully disable it and use only the intel one, for battery saving purposes and to make it run quitte. I know you can use " nouveau.modeset=0 " on some Linux distros, is it enough here ? Thanks.

Hi Diogo, typically you can disable dGPU in BIOS. Surface Book 2: image

Unfortunately not all laptops with nvidia dGPUs using Optimus have an option to disable the nvidia gpu in the bios, would anyone has any suggestons for that case? Perhaps something along the lines of what is mentioned in this thread on the cloudready forum? https://neverware.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360037962254-Solved-Turn-off-power-to-unused-Nvidia-GeForce-GT-525M-GPU-in-CloudReady
