FR: Let us delete messages and logs from a task
Sometimes it's useful to be able to clean up a task's message and log list.
It would also be great if messages could be switched between private and public. So if a comment is internally validated, it can be showed to the client.
Editing would be great as well.
I'm in two minds about this. You can't recall emails which were sent out because a comment was public.
True, but even if it's been sent out, it could still be edited if a mistake was made. Also, most commenting systems out there allow for editing/deleting.
I'm just requesting the feature because I've been in this situation more than once.
I see this as more similar to email than a blog. And you can't usually edit 'sent items' in your email client. I think that a button to make a comment 'private' is the most appropriate option. That keeps the value of history, so you know what was actually sent to the customer, rather than what you would have liked to have sent him.
I see what you're saying, but sometimes you just want to remove a typo or remove old comments that were made redundant. Maybe a "hide" option would work?
At the end of the day, it all depends on what else is on the roadmap. If I'm the only one thinking that could be of use, there is no point prioritizing this feature.
I've tested a few systems and they do allow editing/deleting. A couple of examples http://www.fengoffice.com/web/ http://www.projectfork.net/
I'm quite comfortable with a 'make private' button. That achieves much of what you want and we still have the record of who the message was emailed to.
