Allowing to use as a real library without printing errors to stderr, integration with Maven

May be all my changes are not necessary (sorry for the numerous source reformatting due to my IDEs and emacs rules which remove spaces, tabs and others) but seems to me that this great library could really beneficiate from (some of) my changes. Best regards
