Polybar volume and dunst volume out of sync
Prerequisites
You must have your volume set to some non 0 non 100 number. You must have some sort of volume button on your keyboard, headset, or anything else that you use to increase/decrease volume in specific increments. (I have 5% increments) You must be logged in using the provided bspwm config without making changes to the default configs.

Detailed Description
If you have your volume set, as you increase and decrease volume over the course of days/weeks, the polybar volume number will be out of sync with the dunst notification for your volume when you increment/decrement it, by 1 incremental unit. (5% for me)
Expected Behavior
Polybar and dunst notification numbers should be the same at all times
Current Behavior
You will eventually go out of sync by 1 increment.
Failure Information (for bugs)
This is not a big deal, just thought I would report this so the developers knew it exists.
Steps to Reproduce
- Increase volume
- Decrease volume
- Continue for a few days or weeks until you run into the issue
- Sorry the repro steps suck :(

I replaced pulseaudio with pipewire-pulse and found the same problem (volume indicators in polybar, dunst and pavucontrol are out of sync). The way to solve this problem is to replace the media key command (the default configurations use the volume command) in ~/.config/openbox/rc.xml (if you are using Openbox). If you want to reproduce this way in bspwm, you'll have to find a different keyboard configuration path for it. The command I use is pactl, it looks like this:
XF86AudioRaiseVolume: pactl set-sink-volume 0 +5% XF86AudioLowerVolume key: pactl set-sink-volume 0 -5% XF86AudioMute: pactl set-sink-mute 0 toggle
After that restart Openbox, the volume percentage in the Polybar will return to the output percentage in pavucontrol, it's just that you no longer receive notifications from Dunst (this doesn't matter to me because the volume indicator is already visible in the polybar).
It's fixed i guess.
