Notice: Account deleted apparently due to using this twice to scrape images from about 12 accounts
I'm not sure if this is due to a recent change on Instagram's side or a fluke, but I tried to use this tool after about a year and it did not go well.
I attempted to scrape about 12 users, resulting in about 20-30 images total being downloaded before I hit some sort of rate limit. I needed to wait 24 hours to try again, and I attempted to use a bandwidth limiter (since this tool has no flag for self rate limiting) to download only 20kb per minute... but it still had the same result.
The next day, I logged in and got a message that my account needed to be reviewed. After a few days, I didn't hear anything, but upon logging into Instagram, I get the message:
Your account has been disabled for violating our terms. Learn how you may be able to restore your account. https://help.instagram.com/579394218790742
That URL simply says:
Your account has been deleted for not following our terms. You won't be able to log into this account and no one else will be able to see it. We're unable to restore accounts that are deleted for these types of violations.
So, I'm not sure if a rate limit is in play or would be a reasonable feature request, but it seems like using this application only twice can result in your account being irrevocably deleted. The directions should explicitly state to not use any account to log in unless you are OK with it being deleted.
