Deprecated
Hi! I'm just getting started using and writing Foxx-Apps, but I'm a little puzzled the materials provided here are deprecated.
foxx-manager install applications/hello-foxx.json /hello
Please specify a password:
NOTE: foxx-manager is deprecated and will be removed in ArangoDB 4.
Please use foxx-cli instead: https://docs.arangodb.com/3.4/Manual/Foxx/Deployment/FoxxCLI
Also in the delivered Service hello-foxx the deprecated command is shown. As the Repo is now around four years old - can I be sure all of the provided services are still working?
Hi @qohelet, the deprecation warning you're seeing is from the foxx-manager CLI tool that is currently still bundled with ArangoDB for backwards compatibility as it is no longer maintained and will be removed in the upcoming 4.0 release. We strongly suggest using foxx-cli instead, which is a node-based utility that is actively maintained by us.
The Hello Foxx service itself was updated for ArangoDB 3.0 but it looks like the README wasn't updated to remove the mention of foxx-manager. This was likely an oversight because the service was updated before foxx-manager was officially deprecated.
You can either install services using the web interface or by using the foxx-cli. However the foxx-manager utility should still work for installing and removing services even if it is no longer updated.
@pluma Should we simply replace it with a link to https://docs.arangodb.com/latest/Manual/Foxx/Deployment.html ?
@Simran-B that seems like a good idea for now.
