Better Error Messaging on Parse

Error messages on parse are not very good.

  • [ ] currently missing functions don't return an error as they should bc the validate allows missing.
  • [ ] better error messages
  • [ ] create a variety of failed queries, and watch for error messages, create tests for those cases.
